SO MUCH TO SEE AND DO.
The central location of Killin, makes an ideal base from which to tour by car. You may never tire of exploring the local lochs, glens and mountains, but those who wish to venture further afield have a wonderful choice of towns and villages, castles, gardens, distilleries and other attractions to visit with spectacular scenery at every corner. Here are just a few ideas from the hundreds to choose from:
To the west there is Loch Lomond, Inverary, Loch Awe, Oban and the Argyll coast, Glencoe and Fort William. On the way you could visit Inverary Castle and Jail, the NTS gardens at Crarae and Arduaine, Cruachan - the hollow mountain, Glencoe Visitor Centre or take a cruise on Loch Etive.
To the north there is Loch Rannoch, Loch Tummel and the Queen's View visitor centre, Pitlochry with its famous fish ladder and distilleries, Blair Atholl with the spectacular Blair Castle.
To the east is Kenmore and the Crannog Centre, a sail on Loch Tay, Aberfeldy with its distillery and the nearby Cluny Gardens, Crieff, Dunkeld with its Cathedral andLoch of the Lowes Nature Reserve. Perth has shops, museums, art galleries, the NTS Branklyn Garden, Cherrybank Gardens and Scone Palace.
To the south there is Balquhidder and Rob Roy's grave, Callander, the Trossachs and a sail on Loch Katrine on board the famous "Sir Walter Scott" steam ship, Lake of Menteith and Inchmahome Priory, Doune Castle and then Stirling. Stirling has its shopping centres, museum and art gallery with a visit to the Castle, Argyll's Lodgings and the old quarter of the town a must. A short drive from the town centre takes you to the Wallace Monument at Bridge of Allan or the famous battle site at Bannockburn.
